Global Presbyterian Worship Centre Göttingen

Brief History

The Global Presbyterian Worship Centre Göttingen (GPWC-G) is one of the first international Presbyterian Worship Centres under the Global Presbyterian Worship Centre concept of the Europe Presbytery of the Presyterian Church of Ghana under the direction of  the Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Prof. Abamfo Atiemo. It started in January 2019 as Presbyterian Church of Ghana Göttingen with a maiden Sunday divine service of 17 people held on 20th January 2019 in the Universitätskirche St. Nikolai; the University Church of the University of Göttingen.

The initiative to start a PCG congregation in Göttingen came from Madam Charlotte Antwi who contacted the then District Minister of North Germany District, Rev. Benjamin Appiah, requesting that a Presbyterian church be set up in Göttingen. Rev. Appiah contacted Bro. Michael Wandusim (now Rev. Dr. Michael Wandusim) in November 2018, who at the time was a doctoral student at the University of Göttingen and commuted with his student wife (Mrs. Ekua Annoa Wandusim) to Hannover every Sunday for church services at the then Ramseyer Congregation (now part of Victory Congregation). He charged Rev. Dr. Wandusim (and his wife) to meet with Madam Charlotte and explore the possibilities of starting a preaching post in Göttingen. After the meeting, Rev. Dr. Wandusim approached the Theological Faculty of the University of Göttingen with the request of holding divine services at the University Church. Under the administrative leadership of Prof. Dr. Jan Hermelink, the University Church granted the request.

Given that Göttingen is a university city with a host of international students, the Worship Centre attracted more student members from different countries (Ghana, Nigeria, South Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, India, etc.) and denominations (Presbyterians, Methodists, Deeper Life, Assemblies of God, Christ Apostolic, Catholics, etc.)

Due to its international membership and orientation, the GPWC-G was picked in 2020 to be part of the pioneering international Presbyterian Worship Centres under the GPWC concept. Subsequently, it was formally registered with the local authorities with the name Global Presbyterian Worship Centre Göttingen (of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana) e. V.

Currently, it is managed by an Interim Management Committee (IMC) with the following membership.
